Challenge Coin
Historically, challenge coins were presented by unit commanders in recognition of a special achievement by a member of the unit. They could also be exchanged in recognition of visits to an organization.
Modern-day challenge coins may feature popular culture attributes or organizational values. The Nurstead Challenge Coin stands for the dedication to value our organization holds and is prized by those who have attended our trainings.
A coin check typically begins with a challenger holding his or her coin in the air or slamming it on a table or bar and yelling “coin check!” All those within earshot must respond by showing their coins to the challenger within 10 seconds. Anyone who fails to do so must buy those who successfully returned the coin check a round of drinks. If all the challenged coin holders produce their coin, the challenger must buy the round of drinks. (Also, if anyone accidentally drops their coin and it makes an audible sound on impact, they have “accidentally” initiated a coin check. There are no exceptions to the rules – get your coin out or you’re buying!)
Rise: Substance Abuse Treatment Program
Substance abuse is best viewed through the use of multiple theories if one is to understand all the aspects that contribute to addictions. Rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Theory, Rise uses a poly-therapeutic approach that blends the framework of psychodynamic theory, dialectical behavioral therapy, and other theoretical and treatment approaches to address addiction.
Rise, with its blended framework approach, in discussion and practice enables group participants to understand and manage their addiction and sustain their recovery long-term. Deeper still, the approach used in Rise assists individuals with understanding themselves and the factors that were at play throughout their addiction; before, during, and after.
